‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: Katie Cassidy on preparing for Black Canary

Black Canary -Ever since the beginning of “Arrow,” it felt pretty clear that at some point, Laurel Lance was going to evolve to the point where she could become Black Canary. Luckily, that moment is just about here. Wednesday night’s new episode marks the beginning of her story in the costume, and there are going to be plenty of opportunities to see just what she is capable of.

Of course, don’t expect her to be anywhere close to perfect for the time being. As Katie Cassidy tells IGN, she is extremely grateful to finally get to the point where she can put on the mask; with that being said, there is still a long ways to go before she will become the version of the hero so many have been waiting for:

“It’s everything I’ve ever wanted. I waited a long time to get to this place. I’m just so grateful and so happy. The writers have been so good to me. It was a long time coming, but I think it was well worth the wait. As with every superhero, you have to earn it. You can’t have a character turn into a superhero over night. So Laurel had to hit her rock bottom before she came out on top. Yes, on January 21st you’ll see me in the costume, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m good — yet. She’s still learning, still training. She still has a long way to go. But she’s driven, and she’s fearless. Seeking vengeance for her sister is what’s moving her.”

We’re personally really excited to see how this goes. We know that there are many out there who have been very critical of the Laurel story, but we feel like the problem is just that she has been victimized far too much. Cassidy has worked her butt off to play what has been given to her really well, and this season, she’s finally getting some stories to show that she can take control of her life, kick butt, and take names. Let’s hope this continues.
