Golden Globes 2015: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler joke about George, Amal Clooney, Bill Cosby, more

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler served as the master of ceremonies again for the 2015 Golden Globes, and going into the show, we were insanely curious as to what they were going to do. This is their third year as co-hosts, and the pressure is now off for them to be on their best behavior every single second of the day.

So how was the opening monologue this year? We anticipate some mostly-positive reviews, largely because Tina and Amy are understandably beloved. Their last two times hosting the show were brilliant.

However, we have to say that for the most part, the results were somewhat mixed. The first few jokes were pretty weak, skewering the likes of Joaquin Phoenix, Wes Anderson, and a few other members of the audience. The first joke that really killed was when the two started to discuss Amal Clooney’s various accomplishments, and then joked that it was George who was receiving a lifetime achievement award.

Then, things got controversial with the Bill Cosby jokes. We had a little bit of an advanced warning that this sort of thing was coming, so really you should have been prepared for something like this to take place. Personally, we have no problem with the jokes as long as they are good. Framing it around Sleeping Beauty and “Into the Woods” was pretty darn brilliant, as was the Cosby impression that both Tina and Amy gave. The purpose of humor is to shock people, and we wish that the hosts were this daring for the entire opening of the show. If so, we’d probably be feeling so much more positive about the show as a whole.
