‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ spotlight: Get your popcorn ready for Terrell Owens
Terrell Owens may be one of our favorite castings of this season of “The Celebrity Apprentice.” The guy was a great football player, but you could sense throughout almost the entirety of his career that he was also an entertainer. He had a grasp that the NFL was about more than just scoring points for the fans, and he took it upon himself many times over the years to have fun and make sure everyone was having fun with him.
Well, this show seems like a very good venue for him to let his personality shine. While we’re not entirely sure what his odds are of winning, anyone who loves good TV better hope that T.O. sticks around for a long time.
Claim to fame – Playing with a number of NFL teams, mostly notably the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys. Also, his over-the-top touchdown celebrations, his big personality, and his quotes (“get your popcorn ready”).
Strengths – First and foremost, T.O. is a guy who you can use as a genuine celebrity. People will recognize him on the street, and he has to know countless other NFL players who could contribute to tasks. He’s also much more creative than your average athlete, and you don’t get to be as good of a player as he was without working your tail off. Also, we feel like the producers are going to love him in the boardroom.
Weaknesses – He clashed with teammates at times during his career, and we feel like he could at times be a lightning rod for conflict. This could hurt him more than anything else. We don’t know how beloved he is in New York City, either, having played for many of the New York Giants’ rivals over the years.
Charity – Ronald McDonald House Charities. A great cause, and one that a good percentage of Americans should be familiar with going in.
Prediction – If there is any justice in this world, Owens is making it pretty deep this season. We cannot see him being one of the first few boots, and while we’re not that confident he will win, the idea of him going toe-to-toe with someone in the finale would be glorious fun.
