“Once Upon a Time” has emerged with some interesting casting, at least when it comes to the character of Ursula and really this entire part of the show’s universe.
Sources confirm that former “Ghostbusters” star Ernie Hudson has been booked for a guest-starring role on the ABC show this season, and specifically, we know right now that he has been playing the part of Poseidon, the father of the infamous Sea Queen.
The reason that we wonder about this casting is mostly because of the mythological roots. Technically, Triton is the son of Poseidon, and he is also the father of Ariel. If this was the case on the show, then it would make Ursula Triton’s sister, and by the same token the aunt of Ariel … and you know how we feel about everyone on this show being related.
Regardless, we are happy to see Hudson making another “Once Upon a Time” appearance, mostly because we always liked his comic sensibility, and much that translates over to drama, as well. Don’t expect him to turn up right away when the show returns on March 1; instead, he will appear a few episodes in, possibly in flashbacks to what Ursula was like back in the days before the curse spread by Regina. This is a time period that the showrunners seem to be fairly interested in exploring more of.
As for Cruella de Vil and Maleficent, don’t worry; we will learn more about their backstories, as well.
