NBC’s ‘The Voice’ finale results: Damien, Craig Wayne Boyd, Matt McAndrew, Chris Jamison perform

Craig -Before we publish anything about “The Voice’s” final results this season, we thought we would start things off tonight with a review about all of the other good stuff that is coming your way tonight. This includes musical guests, group numbers, and some surprises that are probably just there to fill time.

What we’re going to do here is give you a quick-take on all of the performances tonight, along with a letter grade for each one. Join us on this long-window musical journey!

Craig Wayne Boyd with DaNica Shirey, Sugar Joans, and Taylor Brashears, “Keep Your Hands to Yourself” – This was vintage Craig doing southern rock. This is more or less the sort of music that he probably wanted to do the entire season, but couldn’t because it wouldn’t do well on iTunes. Grade: B+.

Hozier, “Take Me to Church” – Hozier’s probably getting tired of performing this song, but it really did not show here! Very nice rendition of the hit. A-.

Chris Jamison with Luke Wade, Ryan Sill, Taylor Phelan, and Ricky Manning, “Dedication to My Ex” – This was an interesting combo. It felt both modern and also retro at the same time. Loved the staging and the outfits! With that being said, did anyone else feel like this was Chris singing with a backing band. B.

Matt McAndrew with Fall Out Boy, “Centuries” – Obvious product placement for “The Sing-Off,” and promotion for Fall Out Boy’s new album. If this was really meant to be good performance, they would have sang something that fans were familiar with. C.

Bryana Salaz, DaNica, Jean Kelley, Mia Pfirrman, and Sugar, “Bang Bang” – A nice reminder that there were some great ladies on the show this season, even if they did not get a whole lot of votes for much of the season. B+.

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, “Uptown Funk” – Basically, every bit as awesome as you would have expected for it to be. Great energy, great performance, and we were mesmerized by whatever was in Bruno’s hair. A.

Craig Wayne Boyd and Lynyrd Skynyrd, “Sweet Home Band” – Pure nostalgia. There wasn’t anything in this performance that really stood out, but we figure that Craig didn’t mind. This just had to be a cool thing for him to do. A-.

Meghan Trainor, “Hips Are Moving” – The song’s okay … we suppose. Nothing that really makes it stand out. C+.

Damien and Jennifer Hudson, “It’s Your World” – Damien had to feel pretty darn good about getting to do this performance. J-Hud surprised us first of all with her outfit choice, and then these two had some awesome chemistry. Applause all around. A.

Ed Sheeran, “Thinking Out Loud” – We love the song. It is just about everything we wanted to hear tonight. A.

Matt, Taylor, Taylor John Williams, Sugar, and Mia, “Go Your Own Way” – We love the song, but we have to say that Sugar completely STOLE this. We really wish that she had made it into the finale. B.

Damien, DaNica, Elyjuh Rene, and Anita Antoinette, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” – Sweet and soulful, but also fairly formulaic. Still, these were the singers that we wanted to see on the stage together. B+.

Chris and Jessie J, “Masterpiece” – The performance of the night by far. She was the most generous duet partner of the night, and they had some seriously great chemistry. If they released this as a duet, we’d be the first in line for it. A+.
