‘Criminal Minds’ season 10 to launch new spin-off show

Criminal Minds -Is “Criminal Minds” looking to get into the spin-off business once again? Based on what we are seeing and hearing about right now, the answer that that appears to be, at least for the most part, yes.

Sources confirm that the CBS show is preparing a new spin-off pilot that will air later this season, and focus mostly on a special division of the FBI, who works extensively to ensure that American citizens who are located abroad find a way to stay safe. This backdoor pilot will be written by current showrunner Erica Messer, and while similar to the original show, there is enough of a difference to make it stand out.

As for whether or not we can envision this being a successful series in its own right, we’re torn. “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” was spawned years ago, and it only lasted a meager 13 episodes before ultimately getting canceled. Unless you have a really good cast, we’re not sure that you are going to get that many people to watch.

In the end, we feel like the market for a procedural is now different than what it was ten years ago. Now, viewers can bring up Netflix to watch shows, and there are so many more options that going through a crime a week is not always as appealing an option. Just look at the numbers across the board now; while “NCIS” may be a huge hit still in total viewers, there aren’t many pure procedurals that we see drawing huge demo numbers anymore.
