‘Survivor: San Juan del Sur’ rankings: Did Jon Misch’s move kill his chances?

There is a good bit to like about Jon Misch. He seems like a funny, likable guy, and he is at least trying to play the game on “Survivor: San Juan del Sur.” That is something that only a few people seem that interested in doing.

While we’ve said that, we also have to ponder this: How many people are actually playing the game right now? The answer is “not many,” and this is a part of the problem with this season. Also, while we like Jon as a person out there, we’re not sure what to think of him as a player. Just because you can make big moves doesn’t mean you should all of the time, and that is something we are going to get into in our weekly contestant rankings below.

New to the list? Well, we base the rankings off of strategy, screen time, edit, and also past history of similar players on the show.

9. Natalie Anderson – This is what happens when there is a big swing in the game. Natalie is in the same position that Reed was in last week, as she may be on the outside of the numbers depending on where Reed is, and she could just be an easy, expendable vote for people to make. We don’t want to see this happen, but we’re worried.

8. Reed Kelly – Reed could easily be the Sarah or the Christy of this season, and be the swing vote who gets promptly voted out of the game for playing both sides. His moves are just a little too transparent for the game.

7. Jon Misch – The only reason that we have him ranked this high at all is because he has a hidden immunity idol, but he at least has multiple people interested in taking him out now. If he plays this wrong Wednesday, his bad move could have him sent out the door.

6. Keith Nale – Just having the other immunity idol makes him a target, and we have no idea if he knows how to use it properly.

5. Alec Christy – Alec has zero chance of winning this game. Zero. Even if he makes it further than any other man this season, it’s impossible to rank a guy too high when he doesn’t seem to have any strategic clue.

4. Missy Payne – Missy is a pretty good player, but if she has a big weakness, it is the blind spot known as her daughter. We easily see her sacrificing herself for Baylor’s game, just as she sacrificed herself seemingly in that one challenge earlier this season.

3. Wes Nale – Wes’ status here is mostly just because we don’t see him going anywhere for a few weeks when you have immunity idols and other fish to fry. He has done a reasonable job of laying low and avoiding trouble, but he has virtually no chance to win.

2. Jaclyn Schultz – Jaclyn’s arc as of late has been interesting. Basically, she showed herself to be the more strategic one in the alliance with Jon, as she had him go with Baylor and Missy, where she is in a much better spot and her opinion is respected. She hasn’t been super-compelling TV, but if she made it to the end with someone like Alec or Missy, she could very likely win.

1. Baylor Wilson – Seeing the end of the road for Jeremy further solidified our view that Baylor is going to win this season, which we started to feel out back during the first episode of the season. There just is not a whole lot of an ulterior explanation for her screen time or her favorable edit pre-merge.

Now, this is where you come in. Share who you think is playing the best right now below!
