ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 4, episode 8 review: Who is Emily Thorne torturing?
Over the past year or so, what we’ve learned about “Revenge” is that you can literally never expect what the show is going to do, mostly because of how out-of-left-field some of the twists are. Take, for example, David Clarke being alive in the first place.
Sunday night’s new episode was definitely a bizarre little exercise in finding out true intentions, and whose side everyone was on. For David Clarke, he had a hard time figuring it out. At one point, he was still acting as though he had feelings for Victoria Grayson. However, at the same time he also made it pretty darn clear that he was devoted to Emily, and wanted to do what he could in order to ensure that he protected her from an unknown enemy, one who threatened him with her life and held him hostage. Emily is letting him handle this unknown man for now, but we’ll see how long that lasts (more on that later).
As for some of the supporting storylines, Jack met a new potential love interest (played by Courtney Ford), and he also felt constant tension with his other workers on the force over how quickly he has managed to fit in.
Also, Louise still tried her own unique brand of crazy on Daniel Grayson, and it didn’t work! Instead he was actually branwashed by the news that Margaux was in love with him, and he seems to be moving into “try to be a good person” mode. How often do we really see Daniel trying his luck at something like this? It’s not often.
The big cliffhanger at the end of the episode is that Emily is clearly not going to stay out of this business for long; as a matter of fact, she is already trying to protect her father courtesy of an impromptu torture chamber. Who does she have tied up? We want to say that it’s Ben because that would be interesting, but we didn’t get a good look at the face … for now. Episode Grade: B+.
