‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’: Producers, Sarah Paulson talk musical numbers
Even though “American Horror Story” is not anywhere close to “Glee” thematically, there is something that the two have in common: Music. This season has featured more musical numbers than any other, and this does make it a prime subject of conversation.
In the video below, you can see some of the show’s producers discuss some of the decisions that were put into making some of these controversial performances happen. the reason that we describe these as “controversial” is mostly because of the way in which they came about. Executive producer Ryan Murphy chose a variety of songs that were not even close to being in the right era for the show, and wanted them to match up with the story thematically. This was his first priority above anything else.
Meanwhile, Sarah Paulson also describes in the video below how performing on the show was probably the most terrifying thing that she has ever done to date, and she has done some pretty terrifying things on the show. Her process involved working with a vocal coach, and doing just about everything that she could in order to prepare for going out there and giving a killer performance in front of the cameras.
Given that we are only five episodes into the season right now, we feel pretty darn confident that there will be some more coming up eventually … but we’ll have to see just what these performances are. It should be interesting to find out, now?
