‘Gotham’ episode 8 preview: ‘The Mask’ makes us think of Black Mask already

Are we drawing massive conspiracy theories already for “Gotham” based on episode titles? Sure, but that’s what makes it so fun!

The title for next week’s installment is “The Mask,” and even if the show is not bringing in Black Mask at the moment, someone in that writers room had to know what they were doing here. They want us to at least think about that notorious villain from the Batman universe.

The synopsis below does not really offer up much in the way of clues of what to expect. Instead, what we have here is mostly a few little details about the new case Gordon and Bullock are taking on. Meanwhile, we’ve also got a seemingly-normal story for Bruce Wayne, and “normal” is not something he has been for a long time:

“When a Gothamite is found beaten to death, Gordon and Bullock (Donal Logue) are intrigued by the motive and take on the case. Meanwhile, Bruce (David Mazouz) returns to school and has trouble making friends.”

We worry for poor Bruce already, but you have to remember here that feeling so isolated and like an outcast is one of the many reasons that he eventually ended up becoming the Dark Knight in the end. His pain gives him purpose and resolve.

The interesting thing about this is that given tonight’s episode is entitled “Penguin’s Umbrella,” we actually do not have any tease at all when it comes to Robin Lord Taylor’s character … at least for now.
