NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Toia Jones rehearses with Adam Levine, Taylor Swift
The Knockout Rounds are one of the most critical parts of “The Voice,” mostly because they ultimately shape the lineup that we’re going to see during the live shows. As we’ve said recently, this is also one of the few opportunities that we really have in order to actually see what an artist wants to choose for themselves musically.
The sneak peek below focuses on Toia Jones, an artist Adam Levine stole from Pharrell who clearly has a huge voice. She may have the biggest range out of anyone on his team! With that being said, there is still much more that Toia can try to accomplish here if she wants to be a better artist, and that includes getting a little bit of creativity into what she does.
We have to give guest mentor Taylor Swift a little bit of credit here for giving out what we personally feel is pretty darn awesome advice. Rather than focusing on the “love” portion of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love,” she gets her to focus more on the “crazy” portion of it. This little change gives the song almost a different identity, and it framed what Toia can do with her performance. It seems like a really cool twist on the show.
We get why many don’t like Swift, but what we’ll say for her is that she has managed to become a pop-country star without using some of the same typical tricks that many others have (like risque lyrics or really outrageous comments). This has forced her to be extremely creative when it comes to some of her choices.
