‘Shark Tank’ video: BeatBox Beverages takes on Kevin O’Leary
Before we get to Friday night’s new episode of “Shark Tank,” why not share one more preview right now? The product that we are focusing on here is BeatBox Beverages, which has what we would say is an interesting pitch to the sharks. The fact that ABC created the image thumbnail of Lori Greiner with this facial expression may not bode well for the product as a whole.
Let’s start with the facts here. This is an orange boxed wine that actually tastes more like a spirit, and with that, this business creates a variety of fun, colorful cocktails that they sell in a box shaped like something that someone would pick up in “Say Anything.” In some ways, we like the brand integration here across the board, and they have to use the sort of “party all of the time” philosophy to sell this. If only they had LMFAO as spokespeople, they’d probably be perfect. (Update: Read our full review now!)
There may be a problem here: Kevin O’Leary is not a fan. Specifically, he seems to say in the sneak peek below that this “tastes like ****.” To be fair, Kevin is the sort of man who would rather pay thousands of dollars on expensive, well-aged wines than something that you can buy for a reasonable price at a liquor store. Hardly the target audience.
Really, this is what we see as the biggest issue this product faces: Who is going to buy this? It feels like this is best for the college / young-adult crowd, but the problem there is finding a way to market to this crowd, who don’t always look towards traditional advertising. We just cannot see some 35-year old professional going and buying this for a party unless they have either blue hair or zebra pants. Then again, we’ve been wrong before, and as someone who maybe only drinks two or three times a year, we’re probably not the best judge of this.
