‘NCIS’ season 12, episode 5 review: McGee becomes McGibbs and more
Tuesday night’s “NCIS” episode was entitled “The San Dominick,” if you like this show when it is a little more action-packed, then odds are you were smile during this one from ear to ear. It was a fast-paced episode that featured piracy, a great guest-starring turn from Jim Beaver, and a whole lot more.
Basically, it was one of the better episodes of the season, though ironically, our favorite part was not with Tony and Gibbs, trying to figure out what was happening on board what seemed on the surface to be an ordinary cargo ship.
Instead, the best part of the episode for us was witnessing some of the fun stuff that came back at Headquarters, where McGee was put in charge … and became drunk with power? We feel like McGibbs is one of those sorts of nicknames that is probably going to haunt the guy for a long time, especially due to his little seat-stealing moment at the very end. We wish that there was even more fun stuff like this for the McGee character to do here on a weekly basis. He is the best comedic character within this world, and there are times when he doesn’t have enough to do.
While this episode did not reinvent the wheel and listening to Bishop talking about failing a test was not particularly interesting, at least “The San Dominick” did a little bit to shake up the standard “NCIS” formula. Plus, it’s nice to see some actual characters on the show aboard a boat again. Grade: B.

I had a hard time getting into this show. I used to be glued to the screen when NCIS was on but now, not so much. It was good to see McGee running headquarters but the show needs more than that. It had another last minute defusing of a bomb. That’s been done before. The energy is still lacking. Until this last episode, NCIS: LA has had more energy and excitement than it’s parent..

I am really enjoying NCIS LA. The show ratings dropped a lot on the move to Mondays but apparently it is at least competitive with the other shows during that time period for overnight ratings, They beat Castle this week. Agree good energy.

McGee was the best part of the show tonight, The team of Borin and DiNozzo was my second favorite. They represent the old NCIS humor, Gibbs letting the bomb count down to zero and McGee sitting in the boss’s chair was fun too. The emphasis on Tony’s dating habits are in my opinion a total fail. The way they are writing it in this episode and other episodes feels unnatural for Tony’s character. Tony is more than capable of bringing up his exploits himself as he has done in the past, I’m not quite sure what they are trying to turn this show into but I don’t like it, The show seems uneven and does not flow smoothly. I really just need to let this show go and move on to something else. What else comes on Tuesdays at 8 PM?
