‘Survivor: San Juan del Sur’ analysis: Did Drew Christy right about Kelley Wentworth?
In looking back at this past episode of “Survivor: San Juan del Sur,” one thing remains abundantly clear to us: Just how big of a hot mess Hunahpu is as a tribe. The crazy parade was going in full effect, and at the start of it was Drew Christy waving a big baton.
In our interview with Drew on Thursday, we did find out that he was not the only person thinking like a madman; the decision to throw a challenge had Jeremy Collins, Natalie Anderson, and Jon Misch all involved. He’s just the one who stood out the most during it.
What we’re more interested in analyzing here is this: Was Drew right with his premise that Kelley Wentworth is the biggest threat on the tribe? Physically, it’s clear that the answer to this question is “no.” She’s not going to win many (if any) challenge after the merge. Also, we haven’t seen enough of her in the game to know whether or not she will be a significant force to be reckoned with strategically.
As crazy as Drew has been, though, we will give him a little credit when it comes to this: In a season of clueless people, Kelley does have an edge in at least knowing a few things about the show. She’s good enough to fly under the radar, and could in theory be someone who helps to orchestrate big moves down the line. Plus, if both she and her dad get together at the merge, they can form an alliance with others and still probably be under the radar. Neither will be considered a big threat.
Before the season, we predicted Kelley to be the runner-up for this season for a reason, and Dale in 3rd place because he understands the game so well. In a season with clueless players, having any knowledge of the game is an asset.
The other players – Meanwhile, we did pick Josh Canfield to win preseason, and we still feel very good about that. We saw very little of Coyopa in this past episode, but we have no real reason to doubt him. With a tribe swap coming, it’s hard to really analyze any of the other players in this tribe other than to say that we don’t really see any of them in big danger, save for maybe Alec Christy if he keeps acting weird around Baylor, for a while.
For us, the biggest person to watch here may be Baylor Wilson, who is getting quite a strong edit for someone of her character type. Typically, the youngest woman on the season is basically ignored and thought of as a puppet; she’s not getting that, and that may set her up to be a big player later this season and a possible winner threat.
