‘Survivor: San Juan del Sur’ castaway spotlight: Will Reed Kelly web-sling to million dollars?

Reed Kelly -There is a part of us that really wants to see Reed Kelly win “Survivor,” mostly because the dude has actually played Spider-Man and it would be cool to see Spider-Man actually save the day.

However, at the same time Reed may be one of the people this season who suffers from having a very good partner in the game. Josh Canfield is at the moment one of our picks to win, and it is very hard for two people with a preexisting relationship to get deep into the game (at least with a relatively small “Blood vs. Water” sample size). Let’s dive into what may make him a good player, and what may set him back.

Name – Reed Kelly

Age – 32

Location – New York, New York

Occupation – Broadway performer

Strengths – First of all, let us begin by acknowledging that Reed seems to be a pretty big “Survivor” fan, given that he name-checks older players like Bob Crowley and Stephenie LaGrossa in his CBS bio. He’s going to be in good shape (you have to be in order to be Spider-Man), and he may be able to use his Christian faith to find common ground in the game. Coach mastered this during this third time out, though he did take it to a crazy level at times.

Weaknesses – Given that Reed’s pet peeves include “lazy people,” we could imagine him getting sort of annoyed very quickly with some on his tribe. He’s got the right body type to be a good challenge performer after the merge, and that could also be to his detriment.

Past “Survivor” comparison – Physically, he is not that different than Ethan Zohn back during his first season, and we’re having trouble comparing his personality given the lack of male stage performers on the show. Should we just say Chase Rice because they both like to sing? It’s probably not a good mix.

Prediction – Reed has a good shot of making the merge, but we feel like his boyfriend is a little more low-key, and that is a good attribute to have in this game. He probably will not be one of the few people out of the game, though, unless he goes in and tries to do a little too much right away.
