‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 spoilers: Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey front and center in new promo
When “Grey’s Anatomy” returns to ABC with season 11 starting on Thursday, September 25, there is one thing that you can expect to rise to the surface almost right away: Possible martial problems for Meredith and Derek.
We don’t want to see the two of them break up, either, but based on what ABC is doing in their promotional strategy right now, we certainly cannot rule out the possibility. These two characters have been on shaky ground since the end of last season, and it come down to something incredibly realistic: A mere difference of opinion. When it comes to Meredith, what we know she wants is an opportunity to stay in Seattle, and continue her work. Unfortunately, Derek wants out, and she feels like he is starting to prioritize some of the work that he is doing over some of her personal accomplishments.
In the end, the theme that we are looking at here is whether or not the two can find a compromise. This is a great source of anxiety for us, but quite possibly a thrill for Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey to play. How lucky must you be to be able to have this much good material on a show that is in its 11th season? That is not something you see very often. (Then again, you could say the same thing about a serial / procedural hybrid lasting this long in the first place.)
Be on the lookout, as we’re going to have so much more news as it comes out.

Even though Grey’s Anatomy can be such a soap opera, the show really does tackle some serious and realistic issues. I’m excited to see a marriage that’s going through a rough patch because Hollywood usually takes it to the extreme (happily ever after or divorce), and I really hope nothing is resolved right away. Fights aren’t usually tied up in a nice little bow.
