With no ‘Longmire’ season 4, would you watch another A&E series again?
We want to make one thing clear before we dive any further into this article: We’re not writing this out of bitterness that “Longmire” was canceled, or to snipe at a network in A&E that is clearly making a statement about its scripted programming slate right now. What we are merely trying to do is commentate on the emotional connection that does exist between a cable channel in its fans.
We imagine that the “Longmire” cancellation would be handled differently right now if there weren’t a few specific factors playing into it, including that it was the network’s most-watched drama, that it has an active fan following, that it had a massive cliffhanger ending, and that this comes a year after the network canceled another popular show in “The Glades.” Neither show had the ratings of one that would be canceled on another network, and that was ultimately a massive part of the problem here.
Basically, A&E is making what is a business decision for them. We don’t imagine that their programming head is The Claw from “Inspector Gadget,” laughing over the idea that viewers got interested in a show before they promptly canceled it. Instead, we feel like they don’t like the financial model that comes with not owning their scripted programming completely, and feel like they can make more money elsewhere. It’s a hard-line stance, and not a very kind one for fans.
In the short-term, the worst thing that they have to deal with is that they have angry fans and journalists alike, given that so many of us were writing with some confidence that the show would return. Mostly logical signs suggested so. However, in the long-term the issue that A&E faces now is getting people invested in new series or even their current ones. Should you be worried about “Bates Motel”? We imagine that the network will give it a proper ending at some point, given that its profile has been much higher in the press than “Longmire’s” and this would be an enormous disaster for them given the history at this point. However, it’s understandable if you would worry.
Even with some unscripted fare (which is what A&E primarily relies on), why get into a show if you think that it will be canceled not too long into the future? You may not have cliffhangers, but you do still have fans. Syfy can speak to how viewer perception can impact a network; after being known for canceling beloved shows for many years, the network has only recently turned it around somewhat.
The final point to make here is that you cannot continually cancel shows without it eventually having an impact on your fans. Maybe you get past it with other successful shows, or maybe it hurts you. The jury’s still out.
What we leave you with now is this question: Would you watch another A&E program from the start after the “Longmire” cancellation? I am having A&E removed from my line up will not subscribe to this channel ever again. It is unfortunate that they do not want me viewing their programing. Good by A&E.

Let’s face it, Duck Dynasty makes a joke of Cajuns anyway. This is the one should be over.

A&E has gone seriously downhill. Canceling their best show, Longmire, is proof they have gone off the rails. I truly hope another network is smart enough to realize the quality of the show and the fan following. Save Longmire!!

I haven’t tuned into A&E since they cancelled Longmire. I like After 48 and Criminal Minds but they’ve pissed me off enough that they’ve lost this viewer. I’m not watching any of their crap reality shows either. #LongLiveLongmire.

The Glades was not near as good as Longmire. Longmire is the best show going on A&E. Like others I do not care about reality shows, burger or storage wars or the insipid Duck Dynasty. Won’t be watching A&E unless it’s to watch Longmire. Fools.

I don’t understand why the network that shall not be named does not realize – no one is going to pay for advertising on a network with hardly any viewers – I will never watch that network again – they are dead to me – in my mind they don’t exist

I will absolutely NOT watch A&E after dumping Longmire, I will however follow whatever station picks it up.

They got me hooked on Breakout Kings then cancelled it and I was upset, but gave them another chance with Longmire. Now this?! You can’t trust A&E programming so why get involved in their story lines to begin with?

Faithfully watched Bates Motel but no more! If they cancel Longmire what is to stop them cancelling any other show on there (except the stupid Duck people!). I am done with A&E. Will be blocking it from my remote! Goodbye!

Done with A&E after this. Remember the slogan Arts & Entertainment. With cancelling the Glades last year and now Longmire this year what is left? Big Smo, Wahlburgers, Brandi & Jarrod ~ what are we idiots ? Maybe you should change your call letters to D&D (dumb and dumber)

First they killed The Glades, but I still had Longmire. I was hurt but not giving up. Cancelling Longmire was the last straw for me. Why start to watch anything on A&E only to have it cancelled? Not a fan of reality TV at all…I have enough reality in my own life, thank you. #LongLiveLongmire

Longmire was/is my favorite show so A&E canceling it when it had in my opinion good ratings is just bad business even if they didn’t own the % of it that they wanted. They should have known that before they put it on in the first place. Longmire would have been better off never being on A&E. Ending it on a cliffhanger had nothing to do with my opinion of the cancellation. It had not yet run it’s course and there are more stories to be told and it was/is a quality show.
I was not anti A&E after The Glades cancellation because I was getting bored with it. I had been a viewer since the beginning but ending it the way they did was just a slap in the face to the viewers and never responding to the outrage showed they cared nothing for their viewers.
They do own Bates so they may treat it better. Too bad since I think Bates is a terrible show but it fits in with the type of programming A&E apparently is promoting. Violent, tasteless, low brow drama. The Returned is another rip off of an existing show, so much for being original, and based on what I’ve read about it have no interest, more “returned from the dead” fair that’s already been done and is being done elsewhere. Longmire was original. A&E programming is now so different than what it used be I have no interest in anything they develop in house because they have no taste or idea of what quality programming really is. Their current fake reality fair is not something I want to support it just promotes bad behavior, bad taste, and lack of intelligence. I don’t watch any fake reality programs, total waste of time I have better things to do with my time.
I will not be watching A&E in the future or any of their other stations History, Lifetime, etc. They have all become trash TV. Longmire was the only show I watched on A&E and I cringed whenever I had to put my TV on that channel. In fact I got so disgusted with the excessive commercials I bought Longmire via VOD so I wouldn’t have to watch it on A&E or the A&E app/website. I’m actually extremely disappointed that Warner and the producers let Longmire be on A&E in the first place given A&E’s trashy programming. In fact as much as I love Longmire. If A&E should reverse their decision and approve a season 4 I would not watch it on A&E. I’m hoping another network picks it up and it runs for years with great ratings. Then I will watch live again!

With The Longmire cancellation, the only other A&E show I watch is the First 48. It may be unscripted but I don’t really considerate it a reality show. Reality programming has taken over this channel and I can’t stand reality TV be it on A&E or some other network.

it would be a very big shame on A&E to stop Longmire… it is really a good show for the middle aged and older people… it relays to our roots. it is a show we can relate to… too many reality shows and ‘wannabe stars’ shows… tv is junk nowadays… but a few good shows come through that are worth having cable for…

New Show apparently means new Reality Show. I don’t watch the current Reality Shows on A&E so the answer to the poll is bye-bye A&E. I hope Longmire finds a network where it is respected and I’ll take my viewership there.

I’m done with A&E also, as is my whole family; we are not interested in their non-scripted programming and they apparently do not value those of us that love Longmire.

The cancellation of Longmire is a travesty. This was one of the best shows EVER in recent years, and A&E”s top-rated scripted dramas, with an audience surpassing many network shows. I will NEVER watch A&E again!!

Done with A&E. This decision equals the idiotic division by BBC America made when it canceled Copper. Makes me wonder what kind of boneheads run these networks. Hoping Longmire gets picked up another network! It was the best show! Never again, A&E.

It’s bad enough to just drop Longmire but just like the glades they didn’t even finish the storyline so who killed his wife ? shows how much they care about the viewers. nope I’m done with you A&E

The Glades was one of my favorite shows, then Longmire. If the show itself was over with, I’d understand better. But to cancel both of these shows with little to no regard of the fan base is a flagrant disregard to those of us that are customers and I believe A&E will continue this practice. Done with A&E.

The package that included that junk network and its associated networks has been cancelled – no longer paying the cable company for shows we are not going to watch. Plenty of other things to watch, and never did like the so called reality shows where people are paid to act like themselves and look stupid.

isn’t it about what the viewers want and not only what the network wants? I love Longmire. what is great about it is that men and women alike are interested in it. men like westerns so whatever the network is thinking stop it now. we want Longmire to stay

A&E starts off with having really good shows to watch, and then boom, they don’t get renewed. Said nothing good to watch on TV, our cable bills should be cut in half.

I only watched The Glades and Longmire on A&E in the first place and the only reason I ever knew about them was because I was online. If I had depended on their advertising, I would never have known about either show, then they cancel both of them, and I have no desire to ever watch another show on that network ever again.
I hope another network picks up Longmire, as it already has a fan base, most shows don’t come with an already anxious audience.
I find the reality tv shows that are constantly on everywhere to be disgusting a waste of my time.

Was going to catch up on Bates, and was looking forward to The Returned, but now I’ll not bother. I have deleted the A&E app from my tablet and phone. I’ve stopped following them on twitter, etc. There is simply no point in getting interested in one of their scripted shows; it won’t be around long. Plenty of networks value good shows and fan loyalty; I’ll stick with those networks.
