‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4, episode 4 preview: Naomi sees an ugly side of Cheyenne
At the moment, it is pretty easy to feel sorry for the Naomi character on “Hell on Wheels.” After all, she arrived in Cheyenne thinking that this was going to be the big, exciting new city, and there were going to be great opportunities for her lined up as far as the eye can see.
Unfortunately, what she is still realizing is that this town is stuffed full of just as many prejudiced and nasty people as anywhere else, and the difference here is that many of them are prejudiced against her. In the sneak peek video below, you can see her struggle to deal with Ruth and some other particularly nasty people, who seem to be carrying nasty judgments about Mormons being demons are going to be burning in the bowels of the underworld at some point. They speak like all of them are murderers, thieves, liars, and the like.
Unfortunately, what they do not realize is the whole “people are people” philosophy. You can be a good or bad person and be affiliated with any religion. Naomi does her best to put these townspeople in their place, and then goes about her way realizing that she has her work cut out for her making friends. There’s also that “child bride” label that sorely hurts her.
We’re coming to like Naomi as a character far more than we originally thought that we would mostly because she is not completely spineless, or afraid to go out and mingle with the rest of the town. She is perceptive beyond her years, and could be important in this story before it ends.
