Jimmy Fallon tearfully tributes Robin Williams during ‘Tonight Show’
While we have stayed mostly clear of some of the general reactions on social media to Robin Williams’ passing (mostly because there are almost too many of them to count at this point), we are going to share with you some from the world of late-night as they start to come in over the coming days.
For Jimmy Fallon and “The Tonight Show,” this was a particularly emotional one given the tears that you could see were about to run down Jimmy’s face. He descried Robin as “one of a kind, he was one in a million, he was unbelievable … He was just amazing. He was funny, he was fast, and he would weave in and out of character.”
Fallon also included his own very great impression of Robin in here, which we felt was a nice touch since it was done with so much love.
The reason why we feel like so many of these TV tributes to Williams are important is because they all show you even more the sort of love that all of entertainment had for this guy, and the inspiration that he was to many. Most of the modern late-night community was either growing up or just starting to get into the business when he was an enormous star, and they modeled so much after what he did. He was a fantastic improv artist, a brilliant standup, and he could also go between drama and comedy like it was nothing. He is a true original, and that is one of the reasons why he will be so missed.
As we reported earlier, there is a plan in place right now to tribute Robin further at the upcoming 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards.
