‘America’s Got Talent’ rankings: Are Blue Journey, Anna Clendening, Paul Ieti next favorites?
So far, we’ve been pretty good at being able to call the “America’s Got Talent” field, but part of the reason for that is NBC’s fault more so than our own skill. It’s predictable how they stage their shows, and which stories they tend to gravitate towards.
Going into live show #3, we feel ultimately the same way. This is another show that could be poised to help out singers, since there are not enough A+ level acts in the other categories this time. The one good thing is that there is potentially to be wrong on a couple of the advancing acts, since there are a lot of “very good” performers and very few bad ones. There’s no Juan Carlos in the mix this time.
12. Acroarmy – Sort of a lame name, and they’ll really have to bring the artistry given that we’ve already seen great acrobats. You need more than skill at this point.
11. Adrian Romoff – We give him some credit for the personality, but a kid piano player, unless doing something that nobody else can do, is really not that impressive at this stage in the show.
10. Wendy Liebman – Dan Naturman set the bar so high for comics this year that it’s going to be hard for the others. Wendy had some funny jokes the last time we saw her, but there was nothing unique enough about her point of view.
9. The Makepeace Brothers – Good-looking guys who can play and sing, but we’re worried that their no screen time will equal them performing early in the show and being buried by the judges.
8. Dragon House “The Agents” – Maybe the group’s following from other shows will help them make up for the lack of airtime they’ve had here. We know that they can dance and dance well, and this is a start.
7. Cornell Bhangra – We’re intrigued to see how they are going to do, given that this group won the “Today Show” contest to get into the live shows. We’re sure they will have good promotion during the show, and that could help them … but possibly not enough to advance.
6. Christian Stoinev – Very talented guy, but this is a pretty stacked night of performers and he and his little dog will have a hard time standing out. Plus, working with animals (if he does that again) can be very risky.
5. Mike Super – We’re torn on Mike’s chances. We really love the tricks that he does, but his whole “Desmond” gimmick can come across as really cheesy. Presentation will be key for him Tuesday.
4. Sons of Serendip – The more innovative singing group on Tuesday’s show. Also, we really cannot see them giving a bad performance. Their only Achilles heel could be not getting placed at the right part of the show.
3. Blue Journey – A very cool name, great artistry, and they feel like something different even when there are others in the competition with similar skills. This is the sort of thing we look for with a potential advancing act.
2. Paul Ieti – He’s a male singer with a strong following and a ton of screen time, and all of this should guarantee a good chance of going through. Since it’s been a few years since a singer won this show, we expect them to come roaring back this time.
1. Anna Clendening – Take Paul, and then add a massive YouTube following and an emotional story. Even though she is a female singer and men tend to get more votes for some reason on this show, she’s a runaway favorite unless things completely fall apart.
