‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6: Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder unsure of show’s future

The latest -Is season 6 going to be the last for “The Vampire Diaries“? As with many other shows looking past their sixth season, the show is in a somewhat-precarious position. Typically, actors who originally join a TV show sign a contract that lasts for six seasons, and there is sometimes an option that comes in for a seventh.

For right now, though, the actors of this particular CW hit are doing their best to boy coy about what could be coming up. Speaking at a show convention in Dallas this weekend, Paul Wesley merely said that they “don’t know” what is going to be coming next for the show beyond this year. Do we imagine that some of the actors may want to go on and do other things? Sure, given that they are all young, Nina Dobrev has been doing more movies, and Atlanta is not particularly close to Hollywood. However, this show is a great source of income, and the fans are passionate. To us, the better solution is to continue going on the show until you’ve got some of the money from that second contract, and then decide to do something else.

We feel like there’s at least one more season coming up for the show beyond this one, largely due to the fact that The CW would want to announce a final season beforehand as a way to draw extra press. Plus, there’s still a lot to really address on the show in between Elena in college (read about her new job here) and getting Damon back from wherever he is right now in the supernatural world.
