‘NCIS’ season 12: Looking at Cote de Pablo, ‘Truth or Consequences’ possibilities
We are always wary about posting “NCIS” stories pertaining to Cote de Pablo questions, mostly because the last thing we ever want to do is lead anyone on, or suggest that she is coming back to the show without solid information. The truth is that outside of a production office, there really isn’t any information, and we always adopt the philosophy of “expect nothing, and get excited when news breaks.”
What we did want to do tonight was explore the possibility of how a follow-up episode for “Truth or Consequences,” the season seven premiere and one of the most popular Tony / Ziva episodes in the history of the show, could play out. It was a tweet from frequent show director Dennis Smith (who helmed that particular episode) today that first brought this particular episode to the forefront of our mind:
“Just talking about ‘Truth or Consequences’ with Mr. Weatherly and Mr. Stern the other night over a nice bottle of wine.”
“Mr. Stern” is a reference to Jesse Stern, the former writer for this episode. Stern has gone on to write the “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” games, and worked on a pilot briefly with fellow former “NCIS” cohort / current “NCIS: Los Angeles” showrunner Shane Brennan. Stern wrote a message on his own account hours after Smith with the following:
“Hi #TivaCamp2014 been thinking a little bit about a follow up to Truth or Consequences lately. Think that’d be fun?”
This tweet probably broke part of the internet with the response from Ziva / Tiva fans, who of course want to see that happen. With that being said, how could a follow up work? From one vantage point, we never want to see even a fictional character get tortured all over again. Maybe a follow-up could show more of what happened within those few months Tony or Ziva were apart, or just a similar sort of situation revolving around other characters.
The clear truth here is that it wouldn’t seem right to do another episode like this without everyone from the original involved … including Cote and Jesse. Right now, let’s just leave this as a bit of fun and nostalgia, since you cannot take anything else from it. Still, at least all of this shows that there remains a fondness for this episode, and the characters involved in it, from the “NCIS” faithful past and present.
What we do know right now in regards to Cote is that she has been cast for a CBS miniseries, which prohibits her from seemingly returning to the show in a full-time role for at least the foreseeable future.

I can’t figure out if this is all serious or if it’s three guys sitting around with drinks and cigars seeing if they can break Twitter by mentioning TIVA. But … regardless … a follow-up doesn’t necessarily mean Ziva has to be there. Could be a case that gives Tony & McGee a flashback ala Gibbs & Jenny that uses existing footage. In fact … could be all sorts of things that don’t involve the return of TIVA. But if Ziva were to reappear, I’d love to see a follow-up where Ziva actually … y’know … THANKS Tony & McGee for risking their lives to save hers. Because I don’t remember that ever happening.

You should rewatch Reunion. The show does a very good job of having Ziva reconcile with all the team including Tony and McGee.
Frankly I do not want a ToC follow-up without Ziva and would not watch it if did not include Ziva. I would have loved to see her dealing with her PTSD which they did not explore despite the fact that she was tortured for months and how the team deals with it.

Yes, exactly this. There was a big hole in storytelling when they did not deal with her PTSD.

I did think Reunion should have gone further. There wasn’t enough resolution after everything that happened in ToC. Everyone went on their merry way. That said, you could not possibly do a follow up without Ziva there. No way.

They could have done a more reconciliation in Reunion and other Season 7 episodes between Ziva and the team but for the purposes of the show in Reunion Ziva did apologize and thank each member of the team.

If NCIS had a real showrunner instead of Mr. incompetent Glasberg NCIS could shine for many years to come…
But this unwanted Tony romance will help that lots of viewers give up on the show and this awful Bishop is still there annoying at her best!
Wish we could have a follow up on ToC but I would be satisfied with Ziva back, TIVA endgame at some point and BIG NO to Bishop!

I would love another episode that features the formidable talents of Michael Weatherly playing the brave, smart, and heroic hero again, but Mr. Glasburg really only allows Gibbs to have those types of moments and episodes these days. Tony it seems might get a girl friend. As a Tony fan I’m glad that tptb are at least thinking about doing something with him besides having him click the clicker and marvel at, or quake in his boots at Gibbs’s super awesomeness. Sounds like this might be all Tony will get as they seem to be pushing the McGee/ Gibbs dynamic pretty hard (and I used the word “dynamic” very loosely here). I guess they discovered that fans were perceiving that the scenes last season between Tim and Tony were well liked so they had to nip that relationship in the bud and replace Tony with Gibbs. Gibbs has to be the most important person in all team members and guest stars lives afterall.

Reading between the lines – a LOT of good people can not work under Glasberg – the hack seems to be a control freak who wants to write direct and change the direction of the show and ruin ever character. Thank goodness he didn’t TOUCH Truth or Consequences

Thats rubbish. People like Gary and stay with him and the crew. When are people going to accept it was Cotes decision to leave because she couldn’t get the contract she wanted. It wasn’t about the money, but about contract length and episode numbers as she wanted more time away with family and her boyfriend…she chose family over work. The new series she is doing is only a few episodes long so won’t be held with it for too long.

Who like this guy? He is the master of desaster, the man who’s responsable for this.

Gary is a writer and the showrunner. Its not his fault, nor the cast or crew’s fault in any way that Cote left.

The only rubbish “comment” below this article is yours!
Glasberg can’t write or run a show! He ruins NCIS!
And please tell me why all the Cote haters are the ones who defend her decision? As if only one of you knew why she left!
Be happy and celebrate as long as NCIS without Ziva is on because with Bishop NCIS might not have a season 13!
Maybe some CBS executive takes action sooner or later and saves the show by replacing the one person who is truly replaceable on NCIS: Gary Glasberg!

I don’t hate Cote. I quite liked her. I see that the weekly 19 – 21 million viewers disagree with you about NCIS. Stop cry babying and move on if you no longer want to watch it.

Jesse Stern was the absolute best. He also left the show and never really gave a reason only that he wanted to work on other projects. Ohhh, the good old days!!
