‘NCIS’ season 12: What comic legend views show as inspiration?

More news -Isn’t it always a surprise to hear about unlikely connections and inspirations? We like to think so, which is where the following “NCIS” story comes from. After all, who would’ve guessed that Frank Miller took such joy in watching the show?

Thanks to his upcoming film “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,” Miller (who is also very famous for his work on many Batman comics) is currently in the middle of a pretty vast promotional tour. If it wasn’t for that, we would’ve never gotten the quote where he tells IMDb all about all of the movies and TV shows that he typically draws inspiration from:

“I would suggest the work of Sergio Leone, Sam Fuller, all of the obvious people. The Hitchcocks, the Orson Welleses, etc. And the occasional TV series, like ‘Gunsmoke,’ or ‘Kojak,’ or even things like ‘NCIS,’ which is currently [on the air]. It’s a wondrous world out there. There’s tons of material.”

While “NCIS” at first may seem like a somewhat unusual choice, we’ve done a little bit of thinking about it and there is some logicla sense to be made here. For one, “NCIS” has an almost comic quality to it in that there are heroes (Gibbs, Tony), and every episode they tend to fight crime and take down a new villain using the skills that they have at their disposal. If only some of the foes were a little more than just a new one almost every week, then the show could have even more of that element to it.

Still, this is a pretty good model for how you want to try and craft good guys, and also to understand the motives of what some villains could be.
