‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Finally figuring out the tone

American Horror Story -Sometimes, we wonder whether or not the producers of “American Horror Story” should just wait to share details on a given season until they are almost at the beginning of filming. Otherwise, we have situations like this where most of the fans spend a few months confused.

At first, word was that “Freak Show” coming this year was going to be about as light and comedic as “Coven” was, which was met with some polarizing reaction. Then, it was revealed that the show was going in a significantly darker direction, and would be more like “Asylum” the season before.

Now, we’ve got some confirmation finally on the subject. While at the TCA Summer Press Tour this week, it was confirmed that the tone for this new season is going to fall somewhere in the middle of what we have seen each of the past two times the show has been on the air. That may not be the most descriptive bit of news ever, but it gives you a little bit of a better idea of what you can expect.

Personally, we really could care less about tone, since what matters is the writing that is supposedly going to back that up. If that is good, then there is really nothing further to worry about. The problem that we had with “Coven” is that there were around a million or so things going on the majority of the time, and only occasionally did we really get a sense that all of these things made sense.
