‘Two and a Half Men’ season 12 spoilers: Are Walden and Alan really getting married?
The plotline for “Two and a Half Men” season 12 that is starting to hit the press sounds certainly absurd … but then again, that is probably par for the course given what we have seen from this show already.
As CBS programming head Nina Tassler said this week at the network’s TCA Summer Press Tour, the show is going to actually explore gay adoption as Walden makes the big move to try and welcome a child … but only after trying to marry his roommate Alan:
“He wants to find a way to add more meaning to his life, so he decides he wants to adopt a child and in doing so, he starts the process and realizes that it’s very difficult to adopt a child as a single, straight man … So once and for all he decides, ‘I’m going to propose to Alan [Jon Cryer] and we’re going to get married and adopt a child as a gay couple.”
As for why in the world Alan would do this? Oh, we could think of hundreds of millions of reasons, and he never has to worry about being in need of money again. He’ll likely sprint to the altar as fast as he can, even if this means him not being able to marry any women in the future. (It’s not like that has worked out very well for him right now in the first place.)
As for those of you who may say (possibly understandably) that this story stands to make fun of same-sex couples, Tassler tells The Hollywood Reporter that she does not exactly see it that way at all:
“I think it’s a very positive statement that, you know what, I am going to adopt a child as [part of] a gay couple and the reality is, he can do that. And in a universe where at one point you couldn’t do that and now you can do that, I think that’s a much more positive statement that he’s making.”
This will probably all come down to execution, and whether or not this is handled properly. There’ll obviously be humor around it, so tone will probably be what matters the most.
In other news, Tassler said that there are currently no talks to bring Charlie Sheen into the mix again for the final season. Given the last time we saw the guy involved a drunken raid at a Taco Bell drive-thru, that may be the right choice.

I think that as long as it is handled correctly, an Alan and Walden wedding will be okay. But, we all know that it’s fake and Alan will have to make that confession to Lindsay or Gretchen or whoever his love interest is this season. So, we will see how this season goes. So glad Two and a Half Men is over after this season.
