’24’ season 10: Show exec on possible future, Kiefer Sutherland, more

24 -Will Fox renew “24” for a season 10? That is one question, but there’s also another one out there in whether or not there is an additional story for the writers to tell. Before the show does get announced as returning, the team behind the scenes needs to chart their own future.

Speaking about this issue after the finale to TVLine, show executive producer / director Jon Cassar made it clear that for the time being, they are just still trying to catch their breath and are not thinking about a season 10 … at least for now:

“It’s definitely the question of the moment, that’s for sure. Right now, no. Right now I think it’s safe to say there isn’t a next installment. I mean not that there won’t be, but there isn’t anything planned. And I think what Howard [Gordon] keeps saying, which is right, is that we just finished. It was one of the latest finishes to post we’ve ever done. That’s how close the ending was. So basically what Howard keeps saying is that we need to just all move away from it just a bit. We need to just get away for a month so we can all just catch our breath again and be human beings again, because you’re just in such a heightened state when you shoot the show. And then we can start talking about if there’s going to be another 24.”

Cassar also stated that Kiefer Sutherland obviously has his own big decision to make, given that he has played Jack Bauer for more than 200 episodes, and eventually he may not want to be this big TV action hero anymore. While there may be some interest, and the finale (read our review here) certainly leaves something to be desired, we have to be prepared for things to take a little bit of time.

Stay tuned, since we’ll have some more on the show’s future as it breaks. One way you can keep in touch with us? Sign up now for our CarterMatt Newsletter.
