‘The Good Wife’ season 6: Josh Charles returning, but only in director’s chair
When Josh Charles departed “The Good Wife” as an actor during the fifth season, he made it clear that he would still be interested in coming back to direct future episodes of the show.
Well, the man behind Will Gardner is still keeping very true to that promise. According to TVLine, Charles will direct his fourth episode of the series at some point during the show’s upcoming sixth season. He previously helmed “The Art of War” during season 4, and then also “The Next Month” and “Tying the Knot” during the fifth season.
There is obviously a great reason for “The Good Wife” to want to bring him back, even away from the positive reviews that Charles received for his past episodes behind the camera: Easy publicity. They know that many miss Charles after the Will Gardner character was gunned down, and they can promote his episode with his face and saying that he was involved in it. While this is not as rewarding to many as seeing him on the show again, it’s still better than nothing at all.
For the record, we feel like it is incredibly unlikely that we are ever going to see Will pop up on the show again. His death was so shocking and in a way traumatic, bringing him back even in flashback form right now would almost go against the purpose of it. You need to really feel the weight of his departure and that he is gone in order for it to be truly effective.
