ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7: Talking Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion, and Molly Quinn stories

Take a look -Throughout the “Castle” offseason, we like to pop in here and there with some discussion points and debates for what could be coming up the rest of the season. After all, we expect the big wedding cliffhanger to be resolved within the first few episodes, and then there are probably another 20 or so episodes to get through.

The topic that we wanted to touch on today is something that has been dangling in our head now for a little while, and for good reason given what we had in season 6: What are you going to do with Alexis Castle? Her character was saddled for the first half of it with that Pi storyline that nobody liked, and you don’t really want to constantly put her in situations where she is kidnapped, since there are only so many times in which that is interesting.

With this in mind, you’re stuck at an impasse in that it’s hard to just throw her into a story that she has little business in, but you want to be able to use Molly Quinn as much as possible since she’s great in the role and with Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion. Therefore, we’ve put on our thinking caps and tried to come up with a few unique ways to implement her.

  1. A better love interest – This time, maybe have it be someone who Rick knows, or he meets prior to the start of them dating. That way, he is more active rather than just an accessory who finds out about it later.
  2. An internship at the precinct – We’re not saying that Alexis should become a cop, but maybe have her spend a few weeks either in the lab or doing some administrative duty. It would at least get her around the other characters often.
  3. Have more cases where she can be helpful – “The Final Frontier” and “Like Father, Like Daughter” are good examples of this, but those are just two episodes in two years.
  4. Stepmother – stepdaughter time – Maybe Beckett and Alexis witness a crime while out together, and with Castle on a book signing, they have to rely on each other. This would be a nice twist to give Katic and Quinn some screen time on their own.
  5. Some other new connection – Maybe she helps in some way to babysit Ryan’s child. In general, something that tied her to a character who wasn’t just Castle could get her more involved in the story.

There are moments in here that probably sound like fanfiction, but the point we are ultimately trying to make here is that there are some fun ways that she could be implemented into the story that were not the typical damsel-in-distress or a beginning / end tag to attach to a case that has nothing to do with it.
