‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 8: Pedro Pascal on Oberyn’s pain

Game of Thrones -We’re always interested in seeing what actors have to say following a pretty devastating event on one of their shows, mostly because there is an eerie sort of way in which the art impacts the life. For example, Pedro Pascal had quite possibly one of the best roles of his career with Prince Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper on “Game of Thrones.” While he couldn’t have known during production that he would be so popular, he had to know that this was a fun character to play.

Now, we’re sitting here with recurring themes of “gone too soon” in our head. Oberyn was one of the most likable and interesting people on the show, and now he’s gone. For Pascal, it had to feel so bittersweet playing his death scene. He puts it perfectly in a post-mortem interview with TV Guide:

“It was something I was prepared for all along, but still it is such a brutal twist in the story … There’s a part of me that as a fan and watcher of this show that was never really able to get over it. There was an ever-present ache for Oberyn in my heart in the doing of it.”

The silver lining for Pascal is that his life is already changed forever, at least in that he could tour the world doing conventions, and there are going to be plenty out there interested in casting him following this role.

As for the show, it is still too early to tell what the ramifications are going to be for Tyrion now that his champion is dead. It looks like his fate is just about sealed, but it doesn’t have to necessarily be that way if certain events happen. This show is always unpredictable, and we certainly expect that pattern to remain.
