ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 debate: Talking Lanie and Esposito!

It has been a little while since we presented our last “Castle” debate, but rather than spend more time now talking about the polarizing finale and what could happen to Castle and Beckett now, let’s turn the tables to another popular couple: Lanie and Esposito!

Over the course of season 6, it is not like the two parties had that much airtime to build on their story. You probably wondered whether or not they were together for a good chunk of the season, and even the episode that we thought was going to be largely about Lanie ended up by the one with Dr. Kelly Nieman, and the beginnings of a 3XK story that may still be holding weight on the show now. She and Javier did have a nice little holding-hands scene in the finale, and we want to think of that as some sort of sign of good things to come.

1. A date – We understand the need to make the first few episodes of season 7 about the Caskett wedding, and whether or not they can get back on track after everything that they’ve been through. But after episode 5 or 6, why not throw an episode to really establishing where these two are? If Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic’s characters get married, there will for sure be more time for it.

2. Other characters – After all, don’t these two have to have some friends or family outside of work that we haven’t seen yet? We know that Esposito had a tough upbringing, but fleshing out their worlds more at this point could be a great thing.

3. A plan for the future – It may be a little soon for a second wedding, but we feel like some movement in this direction is necessary for Esposito and Lanie before the series ends … at least if they really are endgame. (Fingers crossed!)

Ultimately, our point here is pretty simple that Jon Huertas and Tamala Jones have fun characters, and it’d be great to see a little more of them.
