‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 debate: Should it be the last season?

The latest -Let’s face it: If you are a fan of “Grey’s Anatomy,” then you have to be used to waiting at this time of the year. The only major information you may end up receiving in the next few months pertains to whether or not Caterina Scorsone will become a series regular. The rest of the time is strictly all about patience, and speculating what will happen next with Meredith and Derek, April and Jackson, and some of the other characters.

This is a time, though, that we have to ask a question that we typically find ourselves asking at this time of the year: Should this be the last season of the show? We understand those who say that it should be. 11 years is a long time for anything to go on the air, and announcing a final season now would allow there to be opportunities to close the door properly on what has become an institution.

However, we at the same time feel like a 12th season should be the end of the series, and for a variety of reasons.

1. Contracts – Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey are signed for two more years, and while you don’t have to use both of them for the length of the contract, this is a hurdle that is taken care of. The same goes for Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr. presumably.

2. Scheduling – The show is moving to a new time Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, and if this doesn’t work out, it would be incredibly lame to see the series end just because of a bad timeslot for it.

3. Stories left to tell – We feel like for the impact of Cristina Yang’s exit to really be felt, we need to see what life for Meredith is really like without her. One season barely touches upon that, whereas two gives you something that is a little bit more rich and worthy of exploring. Plus, you also have to cultivate endgames for all of the other regulars.

What do you think: Should we have at least two more “Grey’s Anatomy” seasons? Share your thoughts on the matter below, and head over here for some further updates related to the series. Also, be sure to sign up today to get other good stuff via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
