NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Is Christina Grimmie, Kristen Merlin in trouble?
Tonight, “The Voice” may very well have one of its biggest surprises of the entire season, as a potential favorite for the show could be sent home after some polarizing performances.
Remember, only three artists are going to advance to the finale, and if we take iTunes sales as the major factor right now, then Jake Worthington is going to be one of them thanks to “Heaven” being at #3. This is not exactly an exciting finalist, given that most of his songs are straightforward and traditional. However, the public have spoken, and he has found a lane that works for him. You cannot really begrudge the guy for that.
Meanwhile, we also feel like Josh Kaufman is likely in there, given that he has two songs in the top 20, and he also has a great back catalog and Usher’s fan base. This would give Usher the second straight person in the top three, and he may actually have a good shot to win this time.
Now, we turn to the real question that would shock many: Would Christina Grimmie go home? We personally loved her take on “Hide & Seek” and felt like it was her second-best vocal of the season behind only her Drake cover, but recognize that the Imogen Heap song is somewhat experimental. We feel like the odds are heavy that she could be in the bottom three, and from there will have to rely on Twitter to carry her into the finale. She does certainly have the audience, though, in order to make that happen. Kristen Merlin is the only other major threat.
