‘Bones’ season 9, episode 23 review: Did you like Laura Spencer’s debut?

Bones -Tonight on “Bones” season 9, we had what was a traditional episode in some ways … but there was also a twist that went along with it. Rather than have Booth and Brennan work together on solving the case, Sweets took over the role! It was a chance for him to test out someone new in the event that he landed a new job, and for Sweets to get a little more experience.

In the process, Sweets seemed to be just as interested in finding love with the quirky new intern (Laura Spencer) than he did almost anything else. It’s lucky for him that he was able to get the job done in the process of trying as much as possible to spend time with her. If you are a frequent TV viewer, then you know Spencer already from her time as Emily on “The Big Bang Theory,” and she was also great here. It’s easy to tell why there are two shows currently juggling her right now when it comes to their future plans.

As the sentence above suggested, this will not be a one-off appearance from her by any means. We are going to be seeing much more of her throughout the upcoming season. Her character and Spencer got together at the end of the episode, and we’ll just have to see where all of that goes.

The case itself was reasonably interesting, but mostly just a standard “Bones” case that allowed Booth and Brennan to have a few interesting moments. But, given that next week is the finale, you would’ve expected something a little more dramatic. We did get that at the end of the episode, with Booth getting shot setting the stage for something incredibly dramatic. Grade: B+.
