‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 6 reaction: The meaning of Tyrion – Varys moment

Game of Thrones -During Sunday night’s “Game of Thrones” episode, we had what was arguably the greatest scene of the entire season as Tyrion Lannister was faced with an impossible trial. Just as it was starting to look like a deal was going to be arranged to ensure that he could survive (albeit with the Night’s Watch), the final dagger to the heart came with the appearance of Shae in the courtroom, betraying him and claiming numerous false statements.

So how did Shae arrive there? What happened to Bronn, who was supposed to be ensuring her passage? These are questions that will hopefully be answered at some point soon. Today, we are here to talk about another interesting quote from Varys, who was prodded with a question from a brilliant Peter Dinklage near the end of the trial. It had been a while since this character, arguably one of the most excellent, had been a part of the series.

So what are you supposed to make of this conversation between Varys and Tyrion? Director Alik Sakharov spoke on this subject to The Hollywood Reporter, and reminded us that he was not necessarily condemning Tyrion with this statement in the slightest:

“There’s a big moment in which Tyrion challenges Varys — basically accusing him of forgetting that it was Tyrion who saved them all at the Blackwater. Varys says ‘Sadly my lord, I never forget a thing.’ There is a setup there that perhaps Varys could help his friend in the future.”

If Tyrion does manage to survive whatever comes next (which includes a trial by combat), Varys may be able to help him again. We feel like the Spider is a smart enough man that he will know the true nature of Tyrion’s innocence, but the question still remains as to whether or not he wants to do anything about it.
