‘American Idol XIII’ top 4 spoilers: What Jessica Meuse, Alex Preston, others will sing

The logo -The song list for Wednesday’s “American Idol XIII” is out now, and to quote Juan Pablo Galavis from “The Bachelor,” “it’s okay.” There’s not too much in here that will have you rolling with excitement, though it’s also not the most terrible list of songs ever assembled. At least most of the top 4 have at least one song that they can do something great with.

In case you missed it previously, the theme for this week is Break-Ups and Make-Ups, which limits the remaining four singers to pretty much half of the music ever made. This list comes courtesy of TVLine.

Alex Preston

“Yellow,” Coldplay – Amazingly, this song as never been done on the show before. We don’t think it’ll make a huge moment, but it should satisfy his fan base.

“Too Close,” Alex Clare – We like the song, and it’s an aggressive counterpoint to something that is a little ethereal.

Caleb Johnson

“You Give Love a Bad Name,” Bon Jovi – This could actually be a nice analogy for some fo what he’s been up to the bad week. Too soon for that joke?

“Maybe I’m Amazed,” Paul McCartney – A very good song, but one with two great versions already by Crystal Bowersox and James Durbin. There’s still a chance for this to be great.

Jena Irene

“I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You,” Elvis Presley – A brilliant choice. This song’s been done before, but this actually allows Jena to open up and show us something that hasn’t been fully explored on the show.

“Heartbreaker,” Pat Benatar – We have a harder time fully seeing right now what would be new about this song versus “Barracuda.” It’ll probably be solid, but not memorable.

Jessica Meuse

“Since U Been Gone,” Kelly Clarkson – Not a good idea. Kelly’s voice is just so big that Jessica shouldn’t be trying to match that. Her talent comes more in the character of the voice.

“You and I,” Lady Gaga – A song that suits her voice really well, but is Jennifer Lopez going to poo-poo the song like she did when Haley Reinhart slayed it? Maybe there are parallels here, given that Haley was routinely shafted by the judges when she did well in her season.
