‘The Blacklist’ spoilers: Creator on two-part finale, answers
“The Blacklist” is looking to go big with their upcoming season finale. How much so? Let’s just say that it doesn’t look like they are going to be capable of tying up everything that the show wants to address in a single episode.
Now that the secret is out about who Tom Keen really is (at least to an extent), the further question now is trying to figure out what the meaning of his mission really is. Speaking about this very subject to TV Guide, creator Jon Bokenkamp promises answers … though not necessarily all of them:
“In regard to both Tom and the series as a whole, we will give some satisfying answers … It has built into that episode specifically some really big mysteries that will be really fun to unwrap.”
One of the nice things about the way in which Bokenkamp and his team have set up the final episodes of the season is that even if there are some details handed down about who Raymond Reddington and Tom Keen really are, that doesn’t resolve the issue of their mission at all. They are still trying to achieve something that is not entirely discernible from the standpoint of anyone else, and you have to wonder still who put them up to it, what the possible endgames for it could be, and if there is an expiration date. For example, was Tom going to be put into the position “lookout” for his entire life, or would he have split up with his wife the moment that his job was complete?
