‘Suits’ season 3 finale review: Was there a way out for Mike Ross?

The latest -What happened on the “Suits” finale? You expected this episode to be intense and personal, and it was that and then some.

There are many revelations that came up, but what was the big one right out the gate was that Scottie ended up wanting to leave the firm … yet again. We knew that this was coming, mostly because Abigail Spencer has another job on TV. Harvey will have other opportunities to fall in love in the future, and there are still plenty of those Donna shippers out there. The biggest surprise in all this was seeing Harvey admit to Scottie that Mike was a fraud, even when he didn’t have to. But this echoed a theme for the whole episode: Harvey not lying to people he loves anymore. And while things with him and Scottie are seemingly done, there’s still some love there.

The bigger story of this episode was more of Mike’s interrogation, and the questions as to whether or not we’re going to see him continue to fight on rather than entering into an epic legal battle. Mike struggled to find a way out, especially with all of the proclamations by his mentor to use him as the scapegoat. He couldn’t quite do that … and then therefore decided to create his own way out. He actually found a way to reverse his fortune, and go from the lawyer to the client. The idea of Harvey working for him? Very entertaining … and while this story still has many layers to be unraveled for Mike, we liked the turn to not have it end with sadness. It was a light note to see Mike and Harvey joke around after a tough season for them.

And with this, we come to the end. “No Way Out” was a nice hour that didn’t necessarily leave our jaws hanging, but did give us a smile or two as we saw our favorite characters shift spots on the chess board. We’ll just have to see where the producers take this next. Grade: B+.
