‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: See Anna Kendrick, Pharrell Williams, and his hat

SNL -Pharrrell’s hat is to Pharrell like the monocle is to the Monopoly Man. It will feel strange the moment when he stops wearing it around at this point, even if it has only been a thing for the past couple of months. (Who knew that this would be the fashion follow-up to “Blurred Lines”?)

As the musical guest for this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live,” Pharrell is featured alongside Anna Kendrick in the latest promo for the show below … which is mildly funny. The original one with Anna and Taran Killam had much more humor in it, but then again, wouldn’t you expect that when you consider who you are dealing with here? These are two people who legitimately do comedy, while Pharrell’s not a comic at all. (They also had more to work with; this new promo is just a series of reminders that Pharrell wrote a song called “Happy.”)

We expect tonight to be at least a moderately entertaining show at least, given that we’ve always thought of Anna to be the sort of person who is going to be game to do just about anything. The irony here is that she could have also doubled as the musical guest for the night, given that she does have that song “Cups” that was born out of “Pitch Perfect.” Then again, she’ll have her hands full doing other things.

Finally, one last plea to producers: Why not give us more of Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan? They are the two best male cast members, but they have repeatedly been shafted as of late. Heck, we’d say the same thing about Cecily Strong outside of “Weekend Update.”
