‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5: Ian Somerhalder celebrates sixth-season renewal

Even though there was no new episode of “The Vampire Diaries” that aired on The CW this week, there was still another reason for most of the show’s faithful to celebrate: The renewal for a season 6! There is no longer a reason to worry about whether or not we will be stuck forever waiting for more new episodes … even though it is pretty obvious that you had no reason to every worry in the first place. The only time we can ever see there being any anxiety is following the conclusion of some of the stars’ initial contracts.

So for now, rejoice! One person who certainly happens to be doing so is series star Ian Somerhalder, who posted the following message on his Twitter account after the news first came through:

“SWEET!! #TVD picked up for Season 6! Thank you so much for watching us-this would NEVER have happened w/out YOU! #CWpickups @cwtvd Love IAN”

Ian on the show has already played varying degrees of Damon Salvatore, whether you look at him as some sort of lover to Elena, or a guy who is now wrecking havoc and carnage. The difference between him and Stefan is that this is not necessarily like him flicking a switch whenever he decides to be evil; he aways has the capacity to make the decisions that he wants to, and he chose in this instance to make some of the moves that he did.
