‘Hart of Dixie’ season 3, episode 13 review: Rachel Bilson and one wild party

Act Naturally -Hart of Dixie” had itself a heck of a fun episode tonight in “Act Naturally,” and overall, it really felt like a great way to close the door on the winter portion of this season. There was some story development, some comedy, and above all, a really good time was had by everyone. This was by far the most entertaining episode of 2014 so far, mostly because there was so much packed in here.

Zoe’s party – First of all, Zoe actually had a birthday party for a change! Joel set this up, thinking that it would be a great way for him to show his girlfriend that he is the master of throwing worthy celebrations. With Lavon’s help, it really did turn out to be perfect from start to finish … at least in theory. The problems started to come in when Zoe’s mom arrived, and knowing that she hadn’t told her about the Wilkes, she was desperate to keep her away as much as possible.

This led in the end to a sort of scheme that you could only see on a show like “Hart of Dixie,” where we saw Zoe try to pawn Joel off on her mother while she attended part of the party, and would then hop over near the end. Unfortunately, this fell apart quicker than an ice-cream cone in the Alabama sun as Zoe’s mom caught on.

Lavon and AnnaBeth’s recovery – One of those big distractions for Zoe? Lavon, thinking and feeling that he was a horrible person for not loving AnnaBeth the way that she deserved. Meanwhile, she tried to keep her composure at the party to no avail, and chose to find some sort of solace in helping out Cricket and the Belles. By the end of the night, she was actually appointed to help the group … with Cricket in tow.

George’s sadness – George must feel pretty crazy right now for trying to move on from Lynly to Tansy, only to find out not that much later that she was still in love with Scott. She’s moving, and that probably means the end of her on the show for now. As for George, maybe he’ll get something tangible to do now instead of just having a romantic plot.

While we’re still not big on the George story, “Act Naturally” was still a ton of fun, and there was also another shocker at the tail end of it: Zoe’s mom apparently wants to stick around. This looks like trouble … right? Probably! Grade: B+.
