‘The X Factor’ USA: Colton Pack departs Restless Road days after show’s cancellation
Just as “The X Factor” USA came to a close, we only assumed that some of this was going to start happening to some of the manufactured groups: Restless Road is already undergoing some major changes.
While the band is not breaking up entirely, the news came out this weekend that Colton Pack, who joined the group on the show and was one of the reasons for its success at the end of the day, is departing in order to focus more on some of his own ambitions to be a solo artist. He confirmed it as such in a lengthy message on Twitter, where he also expressed his hope that fans of his would continue to also support his fellow band members Zach Beeken and Andrew Scholz despite his decision.
These two artists released a statement of their own on Facebook, and made it clear that they have no real interest whatsoever in splitting up:
“Colton has decided to leave the group. We are going to support his decision. We don’t want you to worry too much. More information to come … The decision was Colton’s. We didn’t have any arguments or a fall out. We still support each other. Please know Restless Road is NOT over…we are still going to push forward and we have plans.”
Here is the truth of the matter here: If Colton wasn’t feeling being a part of the group, then it was the right move for him to leave. However, he has to be aware that he is going to be taking a major step back when it comes to name recognition beyond his loyal fans. Restless Road is the name that most casual viewers know, and while they weren’t always given the best music to work with on “The X Factor,” there was potential there.
But in the end, we cannot be too shocked by the split. Fifth Harmony and Sweet Suspense are really the only manufactured acts on the show to still be together now, since the acts from the first season all fell apart pretty quickly. Meanwhile, Emblem3 and Alex & Sierra (who were together as groups before the competition) are still together and flourishing.
