‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10 spoilers: Expect another experimental episode

There are a number of different things that “Grey’s Anatomy” has succeeded with over the years, but we have to rank “pushing the envelope” somewhere pretty high on the list. This is a show that is not even remotely afraid to try things from time to time, even if they are pretty unsure along the way as to whether or not they are going to work out. Take, for example, a musicial episode, or one that really questions “what if?” when it comes to a number of key scenarios.

So is there a repeat to one of these sort of episodes coming up in the near future? The answer to that is both yes and no, in a way. What we know about this episode, rumored to at least be a decent chunk into the second half of this season, is (per TVLine) is that it is not going to be a flash-forward episode, but that, like the episodes we’ve already mentioned, it will be “unorthodox.” We hear that it will not be something identical to any of the experimental twists that the show has done before.

Whatever is going to be taking place here is something that you’ll probably hear a little bit more about as you get a little further into the season, since we are still at this point pretty early at least in the process of promoting things. The last thing that Shonda Rhimes or the rest of the producers would want to do is reveal something early, and then ruin the shock for everyone else. The real key here is to keep everything hush-hush as long as humanly possible, and then spring the surprise on everyone later when the story dictates it so.
