‘The Originals’: Killed-off star joins new series as regular
Obviously, let’s start this story about “The Originals” off with a MASSIVE warning: If you want to avoid any and all spoilers from Tuesday night’s new episode, we suggest that you stop reading now. Otherwise, you are probably going to be extremely sad and/or disappointed.
Less than 24 hours after it was shockingly revealed that her character of Sophie is dead, TVLine reports that Daniella Pineda has been cast to play a series regular role in “Odyssey,” a political conspiracy drama that could air on NBC in the fall, if it is picked up.
As for her character, the actress will take on the part of Molly, a reporter for Time Magazine who ends up becoming a love interest for a G8 Summit protester, played here by Jake Robinson of “The Carrie Diaries” fame. It’s clearly a very different sort of role in a show that is not including magic at every turn, and that is at least exciting to see.
The biggest thing to obviously take from this story is that clearly, Sophie is actually dead, and this is not one of those crazy situations where she will be magically revived later on this season like nothing ever happened in the first place. She’s going to be gone, even if it is always possible (at least in theory) that she could appear again. Though with that being said, it feels doubtful that we’ll see a whole lot more of Pineda on “The Originals” at all, given that if this show picks up, it is probably not going to be filming in Atlanta. Things start to get a little bit complicated when you have actors that are forced to migrate between one setting and another.
