‘Face Off’ season 6, episode 4 review: The Billy Goat curse
Last week’s “Face Off” episode was a challenge that was really right up our sci-fi-loving alley: Getting the opportunity to see a fantasy dragon created from start to finish. It was innovative, interesting, and really exciting from start to finish.
This time around, the themes were probably a little more in line for a Nicolas Cage film and a little less for us, mostly because they involved first and foremost such things as guitars and motorcycles. These two challenges (at least to us, anyway) were really all about Daran. Not only did he find a way to make it through the first part of the challenge with immunity, but he did something that to us always represents a serious threat: He went ahead and won the later challenge with one of the coolest “human rock guitars” (which is what we’ve opted to call them) that we have ever seen. Daran has either won or has been close to winning three out of the four spotlight challenges this week. If he does not make it to the finale, then it means that there was some sort of tremendous and sad misstep along the way.
Others, of course, were not so lucky. We actually really did like the idea of some sort of rockabilly billy goat / rock star in theory to represent something a little more whimsical than what they other artists did … but the choice in color was so strange. It really did just look like Hellboy’s little brother without all of the muscles. Not only that, but those horns! So flimsy! The moment that one of them fell, and we realized that Tess was the responsible party, we knew that she was going to be booking a quick ticket out of the competition.
In the end, though, we still find the creativity of this show to be engaging. While “Face Off” itself is not exactly innovative anymore, at least they have kept in mind what the viewers want to see: Cool creations, and people that we can come to know and root for. Grade: B.
