‘Saturday Night Live’: Should Bill Hader’s Stefon return for Seth Meyers’ last episode?
Tonight marks a big episode for “Saturday Night Live“: It is the return of Melissa McCarthy, who has long been one of their most-popular hosts. Not only that, but it is also the exit of Seth Meyers after being the host of “Weekend Update” and a prolific writer for the show for many years.
Seth first joined the show all the way back in 2001, and he became the co-anchor of “Weekend Update” a good five years later in 2006 with Amy Poehler. That was eight or so months after he became the co-head writer at the show, and he has been in these roles ever since. He has interviewed many fake people, delivered thousands of jokes, and also created some of the best sketches on the show. Remember that “Girls” spoof from earlier this season? That is just one of many things that you can thank Seth for.
But given that this is his last show, you have to think that there are going to be some sort of major tributes that will go down. So what about appearances from some great “Weekend Update” characters? Here are some that we would be very happy to see.
Stefon – Clearly, the most popular one of the past decade, and maybe the most popular “Weekend Update” character ever. We’d be happy to see him, but at the same time, do we really need more Stefon? His send-off last season was so perfect that the last thing you want to do is risk ruining the good thing you did with that.
The Girl You Wish You Hand’t Started a Conversation with at a Party – While Cecily Strong is the co-anchor now, it’d be kind of funny to see her great character from last season resurface here to send Seth off.
Drunk Uncle – Probably the most popular character on the show still, but we’ve seen it a little too recently for us to really care about it at all here.
The Devil – We always felt that Jason Sudeikis’ character was underrated, and if we were to get him back on the show, tonight would be a good time to do so.
An actual celebrity cameo – Could someone in politics show up to wish Seth well, or could Lorne Michaels be on-camera?
Amy Poehler – Given that this was originally his “Weekend Update” co-anchor, we would be sad if she didn’t show up to help send her friend off. Then again, she is going to be the first guest on his “Late Night” February 24.
