‘The Voice’ UK: Castoff Bob Blakeley tears up over possible record deal
Even though your journey may be over on “The Voice” UK, that does not always mean that you are at the end of the road.
While there have been a number of devastating auditions over the years to not get a single chair to turn around, Bob Blakeley has to take the cake as one of the hardest to swallow. This warehouse worker, despite being 55 years old, gave a powerful and emotional performance on the show, and yet somehow, he did not get any love from the coaches until after he was done. (Cue all of the footage of the coaches talking about how dumb and terrible they are for not giving him the chance that they feel like he deserves.)
Luckily, it seems like Bob may still get a chance at a future in this industry, after all. In the video below, you can see him on “Breakfast” being offered a chance to get a record deal with none other than producer Mike Batt. Batt makes no guarantees to him over video, but does at least say that he wants to be a mentor to him, and after sitting down and meeting with him, the two may be able to work out some sort of deal where he can assist him in actually getting some sort of future in this business.
There is little doubt that for a man over 50, the recording industry can be a mean and terrifying place. Ageism does happen all around you, and you have to get a little help sometimes to make the impact that you feel like you deserve. Hopefully, Bob will at least if nothing else get an opportunity to do some gigs occasionally, and continue to enjoy a passion that he has held for such a huge stretch of his life.
