‘New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly’ 2014: Blake Shelton to perform; ‘Glee’s’ Jane Lynch co-hosts

While NBC’s New Year’s Eve special may at times feel like the little brother to what is going on with ABC and “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” there are some reasons to check this one out over all of the others.

For one, this is the slightly more relaxed and fun of these two New York-set New Year’s Eve shows. Carson Daly is more at home in New York than Ryan Seacrest, having been a part of “TRL” for so many years here. He blends in better, and seems to connect more with the people. Plus, he’s got one of his fellow personalities from “The Voice” in Blake Shelton performing on the show, which is great for everyone looking for a modern country performer for this year’s celebration. Plus, Blake’s a ton of fun, but we have no idea how he is going to be able to make it through the busiest party night of the year without having a little bit of his brand of “entertainment” (i.e. drinking) in the process.

Also, there is going to be a woman performing on the show in Mariah Carey who has made more of a living as of late on “American Idol” … though she had millions and millions in the bank before that. She joins a roster that includes co-host Jane Lynch (of both “Glee” and “Hollywood Game Night”), and also the likes of Anthony Anderson and Natasha Leggero. Given the sort of things that Leggero said at the James Franco Roast, it’s going to be somewhat interesting to see how much of her comedy she’s really going to be able to share on national television.

We’re going to have some more updates from this show throughout the night, so be sure to come back to the page to find out some more information as it comes out.
