‘American Idol XIII’ video: Hear Hollywood Week contestants perform holiday classic

Just in case you are not completely over holiday music just yet, think of this “American Idol” video as a late Christmas present to get you excited about everything that is going to be coming up on season 13 starting January 15.

Basically, this video is a performance of “Jingle Bell Rock” from an entire army of Hollywood Week contestants. Think of it as one of the largest and most anxiety-ridden choirs ever created. This is such an intimidating part of the competition that often involves very little sleep and the pressure of learning songs in a very short amount of time; but, if you survive it, you are really not that far at all from the part of the competition where your fate is entirely in the hands of America.

There are so many people singing in the video, though, that it is pretty well impossible to actually sit here and try to judge anything from a critical viewpoint. All of the voices just blend together! If you try to pinpoint individual contestants, you may recognize a few in the crowd. At this point, the talent pool only has so many “undiscovered” people left who have never auditioned for a singing show before. Last year’s champion Candice Glover had went through the process on multiple occasions, and if you look back at the last couple of seasons, you have some other great contestants like Haley Reinhart, Colton Dizon, and Pia Toscano who tried out on more than one occasion. Then, you also have people like Jessica Sanchez or Thia Megia who were originally on another show in “America’s Got Talent” before crossing over here.
