‘True Detective’ video: More Matthew McConaughey awesomeness in new trailer

The latest -Based on what we’re seeing right now, there is no other way of saying it: HBO looks like they have a potential new hit on their hands with “True Detective.” Also, we have to continue to wonder why in the world Matthew McConaughey wasn’t taking on these sort of roles for most of the past decade rather than a series of romantic comedies. If he was, he may be the subject of a very different sort of conversation than a guy who was famous for far too long for just taking his shirt off and looking good.

This series places Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson front and center as a pair of policemen who end up learning what it really means to get in too deep. There is corruption, violence, and a number of other things that you can only typically see on HBO (the trailer below is the PG-13 version). This is also a show that the network clearly has a ton of confidence in for a few different reasons.

1. It is being paired up with “Girls,” the network’s most-popular comedy these days when it comes to young people.

2. It’s getting the opportunity to release a ton of various promotional material. This is actually the fourth separate trailer that the show has released.

3. Anytime that you have two pretty popular movie actors on board your show, you know that people are going to tune in.

This show will premiere on Sunday, January 12 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, making it instantly one of the most-anticipated shows of the month. When you consider that ABC is waiting on their lineup and NBC will be wrapping up football, this may be the perfect time for you to give this new series a try.
