‘Saturday Night Live’: Drake to host, be musical guest for January 18 show

There were ultimately two separate things to look forward to when it came to tonight’s “Saturday Night Live” episode hosted by Jimmy Fallon with Justin Timberlake: Seeing the sketches and waiting for some of the surprises, and then also figuring out who was going to be the host for the next new episode in January. Typically, the show chooses to announce their new host a long time in advance; but, this is the second straight year that we went into the holiday episode not knowing what was going to be coming next.

Well, we now know the answer to that: Drake. The rapper is going to be the host and the musical guest for the show’s first edition of 2014 on January 18, and that’s a choice that to us really seems to make a lot of sense. Drake was an actor on “Degrassi” long before getting his big break in music.

The only real question that we have with a guy like Drake is just if he’s going to be willing to make fun of himself to the same extent that we would hope for him to. Sometimes, musicians and actors that tend to have a public persona can get a little bit camera shy; but, it would be great for him to show people that there’s no reason to be afraid to embarrass themselves (i.e. Justin Bieber). This could be a great way to start the year off with a bang if that happens.
